Does God Love Me?

“Where can I go to escape your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there. If I fly on the wings of the dawn and settle down on the western horizon, even there your hand will lead me; your right hand will hold on to me.”

- Psalm 139:7-9 CSB

Does God Love Me?

It’s the question of every person at one point in their life: is there a God and if there is, does He love me? As I gazed across the valley at Cheaha State Park just outside of Birmingham, AL, I couldn’t help but take a deep breath in and release. I was reminded of the unavoidable, inescapable love of God. And the heart-shaped rock echoed the words of the psalmist: “Where can I go from your Spirit?”

As we approach the rush this season can often bring, do you sense nearness to God or distance as deep as a valley could be? Are you filled with awe and wonder for new beginnings? Anticipating relational endings? Walking through loss? Filled with peace? Are you overwhelmed by expectations? Overjoyed with celebrations?

Whatever you are feeling this Christmas, remember this: there is nowhere - absolutely nowhere you could go to escape the love God has for you. He has not forgotten you or the people you care about. He promised this:

You are loved forever

“I have loved you with an everlasting love.” Jeremiah 31:3 CSB

The Father proved this promise by sending us the Son of His love. Just as Jesus was born in the most obscure of places, the Father does some of His best work in unexpected times, people, and spaces.

So look around. His love may be right there - in heart-shaped rocks or under fluorescent hues of red and green.

Praying for you now and always!
